Little Artists

MES Littlest Artists
Merriwether Elementary School loves the arts! Art teacher Mr. Keltz has been teaching his kindergarten classes the colors of the rainbow. He begins the year focusing on the importance of color, teaching color order, primary colors, and secondary colors. He does this by using different methods and artist techniques. Students painted rainbows using tempera paint for color order. They also created their own Neo-Plasticism. Mr. Keltz used the art techniques of Piet Mondrian an abstract expressionist who focused on simple shapes and primary colors to help teach this concept. Mr. Keltz stated, “With kindergarten, I like to focus on the basics of art theory. This not only builds their confidence while learning, but also, allows each student to see themselves as an artist.” Applying learned skills is a goal of an Edgefield County graduate and another way that MES is helping to prepare their students in becoming world class citizens.
