A photo of the MES Chorus at their Christmas Show.Instead of smells of yummy cookies, Merriwether Elementary School’s chorus filled the cafeteria with wonderful sounds and delightful numbers in their annual Christmas musical production. The Great Big Holiday Bake Off was based on the final round in a cooking competition where 6 bakers remain. Each baker must complete one final task of a fantastic holiday treat. After sampling the yummy treats, the judges give each baker a secret ingredient and they must all come together to make one special holiday recipe. The performers are 4th and 5th grade students at MES who have been practicing since September. These students are led by music teacher, Mrs. Bowen, and, assistants, Sylvia Kulp and Diana Parrish. Sylvia Kulp exclaimed, “It’s a joy to work with these kids and see the talent that each of them have and display that on stage!” The Great Big Holiday Bake Off teaches that when the bakers work together as a team, they can accomplish great feats. The chorus students also learned this lesson in getting ready for their performance. Fourth grade student, Bailey Virella, said, “It was fun to do the show, but, we all had to work together really hard.” This type of collaboration and hard work are reinforcing Edgefield County School District’s mission to create world-class citizens.
